SNMP

ENTERPRISE: Built-in integrations are available for Sensu Enterprise users only.

Overview

Send SNMP traps to a SNMP manager. Sensu Enterprise provides two SNMP MIB (management information base) modules for this integration. The SNMP integration is capable of creating either SNMPv1 or SNMPv2 traps for Sensu events. By default, SNMPv2 traps are created unless the integration is configured for SNMPv1, e.g. "version": 1. The SNMP manager that will be receiving SNMP traps from Sensu Enterprise should load the appropriate provided MIBs. The Sensu Enterprise SNMP MIB files can be altered to better fit certain environments and SNMP configurations.

Configuration

Example(s)

The following is an example global configuration for the snmp enterprise event handler (integration).

{
  "snmp": {
    "host": "8.8.8.8",
    "port": 162,
    "community": "public",
    "version": 2,
    "varbind_trim": 200
  }
}

Integration Specification

snmp attributes

The following attributes are configured within the {"snmp": {} } configuration scope.

host
description The SNMP manager host address.
required false
type String
default 127.0.0.1
example
"host": "8.8.8.8"
port
description The SNMP manager trap port (UDP).
required false
type Integer
default 162
example
"port": 162
community
description The SNMP community string to use when sending traps.
required false
type String
default public
example
"community": "private"
filters
description An array of Sensu event filters (names) to use when filtering events for the handler. Each array item must be a string. Specified filters are merged with default values.
required false
type Array
default
["handle_when", "check_dependencies"]
example
"filters": ["recurrence", "production"]
severities
description An array of check result severities the handler will handle. NOTE: event resolution bypasses this filtering.
required false
type Array
allowed values ok, warning, critical, unknown
default
["warning", "critical", "unknown"]
example
 "severities": ["critical", "unknown"]
varbind_trim
description The SNMP trap varbind value trim length. The network(s) UDP MTU dictates how large the trap payloads can be, trimming varbind values keeps the payloads within limits.
required false
type Integer
default 100
example
"varbind_trim": 300
